Start training right away

Even if you do not formally try to teach the dog a command, the dog is constantly learning. Ballantyne says that whenever you notice this behavior, you should be prepared to reward good behavior with rewards and praise (for example, sitting unfettered, using the bathroom outdoors, etc.). Then, once your puppies have adapted to a new space, they can be more formally “trained” on commands such as “sit down” or “stay” (if they are not already familiar). Semel points out that once your dog settles down, the trainer can (actually) help you set up the space and provide one-on-one guidance.
