5 reasons why you should train your dog

◆ Build positive relationships
One of the best ways to build a healthier relationship with your pet is to understand how your dog learns and applies positive training principles to make training as useful, effective, and easy as possible. Criminal trainers believe that to achieve what’s known as “balance” with your dog, you must first teach him who is boss by being their “alpha” or “pack leader.” This approach is sure to fail from the start because this method of determining the dominant status is physically and psychologically dangerous for your dog and dangerous for you.
Positive training, which rewards and motivates the dog for its good behavior, allows you to develop a relationship with your dog that is based on mutual trust and respect, not fear and intimidation. The most effective teachers are those who can influence their dog’s behavior nonviolently and humanely solve problems. Dogs that learn to use positive reinforcement methods are more tolerant, self-controlled, and behave much more predictably in different situations.
◆ Communicate Life Skills
Every dog needs to learn how to live successfully in the home environment. Domestic dogs seem easy to live with compared to feral dogs, but living in the human world has certain unique pressures. Training your dog in basic behavioral skills and providing adequate mental enrichment and exercise will prevent your dog from developing anxiety and other stress-related behaviors such as destructive chewing, inappropriate barking, and aggressive displays. An important part of the training process is preparing your pet for success by adjusting your environment and making it easier to deal with. This starts with understanding how your dog handles certain situations. For example, if your dog is very social and wants new people to come over to your house, teach them to say hello without jumping in or burying your guests as they enter. This helps suppress excited behavior while letting him enjoy the arrival of new people.
If your dog is cautious or afraid of new people, suppress them by placing them behind the nursery door or in their room when they enter. This will help relieve stress and maintain emotional stability for your dog. An inexperienced space for an inexperienced or timid dog in society, and managing an environment to reduce stress will keep everyone happy and safe.
